Thomas "Barney" Barnes, 82 of West Chester, Ohio suddenly passed away on June 11, 2023. He was born on June 9, 1941 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Barney was a graduate of Purcell High School, class of 1959. After his graduation, he attended barber school and started his career as a barber, owning his own barbershop. He then joined the Army and upon his discharge, changed professions, going into insurance sales. He worked as an insurance agent for 33 years all at Prudential, many times earning recognition/awards as a top salesman. He worked hard to provide for his family but always had the time for an annual family vacation.
In his retirement, he found one of his greatest passions which was working as a clubhouse attendant for the Pittsburgh Pirates during Spring Training. Being around the guys kept him young and he always looked forward to leaving the Cincinnati winters.
He was a big supporter of the Moeller High School football and baseball teams many times traveling with the teams and always held a deep love for sports. He was very proud of the fact that he played softball at Chamberlin Park in six different decades. He was also an avid golfer, playing in many golf leagues and attending numerous golf vacations with his friends. Barney loved going to McDonalds every morning to visit with friends and eat his favorite breakfast - sausage biscuits and gravy.
Barney is preceded in death by his parents Edward and Ruth Barnes, and his identical twin brother Jerry (Jenny) Barnes.
He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Diane (nee Brisben) Barnes, daughter Michelle (Tony) Bicknell, son Brian Barnes, granddaughter Abby Bicknell, grandson Alex Bicknell, brother Mike (Karen) Barnes, brother-in-law of Bill (Lori), Barb and Bob Brisben and many loving nieces, nephews and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 19 from 10:00-11:00am with a funeral mass to follow at 11:00am all at St. John the Evangelist located at 9080 Cincinnati-Dayton Road West Chester, OH 45069. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
