Thomas Paul Sweeney

Thomas Paul Sweeney, affectionately known as Tom, was born on January 28, 1945, in Cincinnati, Ohio. He passed away peacefully on February 21, 2025, in West Chester, leaving behind a legacy marked by warmth, generosity, and a profound love for family and friends. 

Tom graduated from Purcell High School in 1963 and embarked on a fulfilling career as a successful salesman in the ink industry. His outgoing personality made him the life of the party, as he effortlessly connected with people around him. Never meeting a stranger, Tom possessed the remarkable ability to walk into a room full of unfamiliar faces and transform it into a gathering of friends. He was often seen with a pocket full of jokes, always ready to share a laugh and lighten the mood. 

In addition to his professional achievements, Tom proudly served in the United States Navy, having enlisted on March 12, 1964, during the Vietnam War. For his service, he received several commendations, including the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal. 

Tom's love for adventure was evident through his hobbies and interests. He found joy in boating on the Ohio River and riding his Sea-Doo along its scenic banks. Memorable family moments were created during their time renting houseboats on Lake Cumberland and while coaching his sons’ soccer teams. 

Tom is survived by his sons, Scott (Theresa) Gates and Jay Gates, and grandchildren, Claire Gates, Ashley Gates, and Savannah Gates. He is also survived by his siblings, Cynthia Wickert, Ray (Pat) Burbee, and Bonnie Sheedy, along with his brother-in-law, David Warren, and many other loving family members and friends. 

Tom was preceded in death by his father, Paul Andrew Sweeney; his mother, Rilla Elizabeth (née Weiskittel) Sweeney-Burbee; his wife, Marcia (née Reardon) Sweeney; his sisters, Paulette Powers and Mary Susan Warren; and his brothers-in-law, Jim Powers, Ronald Wickert, and Daniel Sheedy. 

Visitation for Thomas Paul Sweeney will be held on February 28, 2025, from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at Mueller Funeral Home, located at 6791 Tylersville Rd, Mason, OH 45040. A memorial service will immediately follow at 6:30 PM. Please bring a story or two to share during this time. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to: Wounded Warrior Project or Tunnel to Towers. 

Tom's spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him, cherished for his humor, kindness, and unwavering devotion to family and friends.
