Vergie Griffith

Vergie Griffith (nee Whittaker), of Liberty Twp., Ohio, affectionately known as "Gran" to many, has been reunited with her loved ones in heaven. She was called home Friday, November 13, 2020 at the age of 99. Born on Saturday, July 9, 1921 in Letcher County, Kentucky to Feathera and Bertha (nee Caudill) Whittaker.

The oldest of her siblings, Vergie began caring for others at a young age. Born to be a matriarch, she wanted nothing more than to make her family happy. Vergie spent hours standing in the kitchen preparing meals from scratch with no recipes to follow or measuring cups to be seen. Her hands stitched yards and yards of fabric into beautiful quilts, wrapping up those she adored in her love. Vergie had a unique way of making a visitor feel like a friend she had known for a long time. With a strong belief, Vergie cherished her relationship with her Lord and Savior and never failed to give Him the glory.

Vergie was preceded in death by: parents, Feathera and Bertha Whittaker; husband, Rence Griffith; son, Buford "Boot" Griffith; son-in-law, John Hicks; grandchildren, David Stamper and Felicia Stamper Hicks; sister, Ina Gillum; and brother, Spencer Whittaker.

Vergie is survived by: daughter, Joyce Hicks; son, Kenneth (Willetta) Griffith; daughter-in-law, Ann Griffith; grandchildren, Dan (Lori) Hicks, Chris (Julie) Hicks, Shellie (Jimmy) Bullock, Jim (Katie) Griffith, Chris Griffith, Yvonda (Greg) Combs, and Kenneth Neal (Mona) Griffith; great-grandchildren, Samantha (Joe) Dunaway, Emily (Casey) Hall, David W. Hicks, Zoe Hicks, Grace Hicks, John Hicks, Henrietta Hicks, Stuart Duncan III, Chris Bullock, Madison Griffith, Amantha Combs, Caitlyn Combs, Alex Griffith, and Casey Griffith; great-great-grandchildren, Levi Duncan, Cali Duncan, Felicia Dunaway, Juliana Dunaway, Jackson Dunaway, Mason Hall, Lane Hall, and Virginia Hall.

Visitation will be Thursday, November 19, 2020 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Mueller Funeral Home, 6791 Tylersville Road, Mason, Ohio 45040. State of Ohio requires you wear a mask and follow social distancing guidelines. Words of Remembrances will be shared at 7:00 PM for those not able to attend the graveside service.

Graveside Service will be Friday, November 20, 2020 at 1:00 PM at James Griffith Cemetery in Letcher County, Kentucky.
