William Preston Williams, of West Chester, Ohio, passed away peacefully Wednesday, March 18, 2020 at the age of 90. He was born Wednesday, August 28, 1929 in Paintsville, Kentucky, the youngest child of Preston Camel and Vernila (nee Potter) Williams.
Billy attended Berea College for two years studying business classes. He enlisted into the Air Force at the age of 20, providing communications between posts for three years during the Korean Conflict. Billy then moved to Dayton, Ohio where he began his career with Standard Register, now known as Taylor Communications. He excelled at a time when data processing was just beginning, earning many awards for his work. Billy would later marry his best-friend, Patricia S. Baker Woodworth. Together, they built a lifetime of memories filled with laughter and love.
Billy had a knack for business. He founded and operated the Roadside Tavern which is now known as Gano. If you ever played at the PYO fields, you probably also bought a treat or two from his ice cream shop that was then known as the Dairy Treat Pisgah. A professional flirt, Billy had the gift of gab. He could literally strike up a conversation with a complete stranger and leave with a new friend. In fact, his dream job was working part-time as the greeter at Wal-Mart. Being paid to do what he did best always brought a smile to his face.
With a heart of gold, Billy believed in his faith and the importance of giving back. He was passionate about the Henderson Settlement, donating weeks at a time to help house and educate others in Kentucky. Billy was an active member of Faith Community United Methodist Church where he developed many close friendships that he cherished. As his health was declining, Billy often talked about being ready for spring to arrive so he could cut the grass and play in the dirt at the church.
He will be forever remembered and cherished by all who knew him.
