Wilma Jean (nee Laxton) Harris, 77 of Monroe, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on August 11, 2022. Born to Willie Laxton and Eva (nee Barnett) Maloney on October 20, 1944, in Pine Knot, Kentucky.
Wilma enjoyed the company of her family. Whether it was for the holidays, weekend gathering or being with her grandchildren on their birthday, she enjoyed them. She was a strong-willed woman with a caring and kind heart. She could cook and bake anything and would make enough for everyone to take leftovers home.
Wilma had the love of travel. The white sandy beaches of Florida with her kids and grandchildren and the incredible train ride to the Grand Canyon with her husband, James.
Wilma was fond of anything Elvis and even had the opportunity to see Elvis the movie in June. She loved to watch NASCAR and went to the Daytona 500 one year with James. She also played softball in her earlier years.
She could best be described as the matriarch or general of the family. She was the foundation of love and happiness in the eyes of her children and grandchildren. She was very caring and giving to her family. She was beautiful and gentle in the eyes of her husband.
Preceded in death by her parents Willie Laxton and Eva (nee Barnett) Maloney, and her son, Christopher Harris.
