Richard F. Horning

Richard F. (Dick) Horning passed away peacefully at his home in Cincinnati, surrounded by family on September 6, 2020.

He was born in Crestline, Ohio on November 19, 1933, one of 5 children to the late Donald and Stella (Weaver) Horning. He married his high school sweetheart Jackie (Dielman) Horning in 1954, she preceded him in death in June, 2016.

He grew up in Crestline. He worked for the Peabody Company in Galion, Ohio and helped on the family farm. He moved his family to Cincinnati, Ohio in 1973 to pursue his career as an Industrial Engineer. He worked for Cincinnati Milacron Mfg. then for Senco where he then retired.

Described as a workaholic, he was always there to lend a helping hand to family, friends and the less fortunate. He was one to enjoy a good laugh and joke. In his younger days, he enjoyed boating, airplanes and motorcycles. He held family and animals (especially his cats) closest to his heart. He could not let any animal go hungry, feeding squirrels, dogs, cats and birds that came into his yard.

He was a long time member of Good Shephard Catholic Church in Cincinnati.

Richard is survived by two daughters Cathy (Denny) McClain of Delaware, Ohio, Vickie (Gary) Crawford of Alexandria, Kentucky, he is reunited with his son Patrick who preceded him in death in 1977. Grandchildren, Shane (Tara) Chitwood, Shawn McClain, Jessica (Jason) Tipton, Emily (Scott) Taylor. Siblings, Tommy Horning of Washington, Illinois, half sister, Karen (Todd) Keiser of Shelby Ohio, step brothers, Eugene (Beth) Hook of Colorado, Joe Hook of Columbus, Ohio, Jim (Cindy) Hook of Crestline. He is reunited with brothers, Lee Edward, Bobby and sister Nancy, who preceded him in death. 6 great grandchildren, one great- great grandchild, a brother and sister in-law, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A private memorial service was held at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
